“Seasons in the park” restaurant is the place to celebrate any special occasion. In this little over 2 years working at the Seasons, I have had wished hundreds of people celebrating their special occasion, be it a birthday, anniversary, graduation, first date, wedding or even celebrating every day life. In today’s pandemic world, filled with fear and uncertainty, anything deserves a celebration. Right?
Recently, I was drawn to a particular table of 3 beautiful girls celebrating a birthday. They bought their own cake which was attractive, with an elegant candle holder. The packaging was unique, totally different from all the well known store (brand) names.
I approached the table
- Me: Good afternoon Ladies. How is everyone doing today?
- She: We are doing good. Thank you.
- Me: Someone’s birthday?
- She: Points to one of the girls who was already blushing.
- Me: Happy birthday! That cake is very unique and beautiful. where did you it buy from?
- She: It was made by one of our friends and its more an hobby for her than a business.
- Me: I would love getting a cake just like the one at your table. It will be for my daughter Harini who will be turning 14 years in few days. Is there any way I can contact your friend to make me a cake?
- She: How about you giving your contact information to us and we shall pass it on to the lady who makes the cake. She will contact you.
- Me: Perfect! Later, one of my co-workers while clearing that table found a piece of paper with my name and phone number.
- Me: That was the paper I gave them. Hopefully, they took a picture of that paper.
The next day,I received a text message from a lady named Ms. Fang, accepting my request to make a cake for Harini. Fang was both polite and professional. She asked me few questions like food allergies/dietary restrictions, fruit and cake flavour preference and the number of people attending the birthday party. I chose the same cake that I saw in the restaurant and we decided to go with 10″ cake. Fang also promised me that the cake will be ready to be picked up outside her house on the day of Harini’s birthday.
On Sunday Dec 6th 2021,I got the cake that was accompanied by a small gift bag with a note: “Happy birthday, Harini.” I thanked Fang and later when Harini opened the gift bag, we were all delighted to see some home made almond nougats.
Everyone loved the texture, taste and Fang’s art work in the cake. White was the theme of the cake and even the writings embedded on the cake was white. $65 for that master piece was more than a deal! Fang’s friend was right. Creating cakes was more an hobby than a business for Fang.
